Grand Union HotelIt was open to the general public only during the thoroughbred racing season. But by the turn of the century, The Grand Union Hotel, in downtown Saratoga Springs, was the largest hotel in the world - boasting more than a thousand rooms and private cottages. As the summer home to the likes of Mark Twain, Sarah Bernhardt, many U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries, it served as the bustling heart of Broadway and West Congress, the Grand Union Hotel was torn down in 1952-1953, but its legend lives on, even today, as one of the most magnificent memories of Saratoga's Golden Age.
